Our Story

How we think about a deck

We design and build decks for homeowners around Endicott, and most of what we get called for is either a new deck from scratch or fixing one that was framed wrong the first time. We got into this trade because we'd rather build something people actually stand on every day than something that just looks good in a photo.

The failures we see most are ledger boards without flashing, footings poured too shallow for our frost line, and joist hangers that rusted out because someone used the wrong fastener with treated lumber. We flash the ledger, dig footings to 42 inches, and match hardware to the lumber so the frame is still solid in fifteen years, not five.

Why Choose Us

What you get when you hire us

None of this is complicated. It is mostly just doing what we said we would do.

Licensed and Insured

Our liability coverage protects you if something goes wrong on site. Ask for certificates before we start, we'll send them over.

Permits Handled

Most towns around Endicott require a permit for anything over 30 inches off the ground. We deal with the paperwork and the inspector so you don't have to.

We Clean Up

We haul away old decking, cut ends and packaging at the end of each day. Your yard shouldn't look like a job site after we leave it.

Written Quotes

The quote breaks down lumber, hardware and labor separately. If you swap composite for pressure-treated partway through, you'll know exactly what that changes.

Our Own Crew

We don't hand jobs off to a rotating group of subcontractors. The same crew that builds it answers if something needs adjusting later.

Local to the Area

We've seen what freeze-thaw does to footings poured too shallow around here. That's part of why we don't cut corners on depth, even when the dig takes longer.

Common Questions

Things people ask us

Questions about how we work and who's doing the work.

How long have you been building decks?
Deck installation and repair work covers everything from small platform decks to multi-level builds with custom railings, plus fixing decks that another contractor framed incorrectly. Specific experience and licensing details are available during a free estimate visit.
Do you use your own crew or subcontractors?
Deck framing, decking and railing work is done by the same crew from the first cut to the final board, not passed off to rotating subcontractors. That crew is also who comes back if a repair is needed later.
Can I see examples of past deck work?
Photos of completed deck installations, repairs and railing work can be shown during an estimate visit, and references from past customers in the Endicott area can be provided on request.
Why choose a local deck builder instead of a large remodeling company?
A local deck builder deals directly with the specific frost depth, soil and permit requirements of the Southern Tier, rather than applying a generic build spec written for a different climate. Scheduling and follow-up repairs are also easier when the crew is based nearby instead of dispatched from out of the area.
Where are you based?
Deck building services are based near Endicott, NY, with jobs taken throughout the surrounding Southern Tier towns within roughly a 50-mile radius.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Spring and early summer are the busiest months for new deck installation, so booking a few weeks ahead during that window is a good idea. Deck repair and staining jobs typically have shorter lead times since they take less time to complete.
Do you clean up the site after finishing a deck?
Old decking, cut lumber ends, packaging and leftover hardware are hauled away at the end of the job, not left for the homeowner to deal with. The yard is cleared of debris daily during multi-day builds, not just at the very end.
What happens if something gets damaged during construction?
General liability insurance covers damage to the property caused during deck construction, and any incident is reported and addressed directly rather than left unresolved. Certificates of insurance are available before work starts if documentation is needed.
Will you finish a deck another contractor started or abandoned?
Taking over a partially built or abandoned deck project is common, with the existing framing and footings inspected first to confirm they meet code before continuing. Anything undersized or improperly attached gets corrected before new work goes on top of it.
How can I tell if deck work is being done correctly?
Footings should sit below the local frost line, around 42 inches in the Endicott area, and joist hangers and ledger flashing should be visible before decking boards go down, not hidden without inspection. Asking to see the frame before boards are installed, and confirming a permit and inspection are in place, are both reasonable requests of any deck builder.
